A generic drug is a pharmaceutical that is produced to be identical to the brand-name product.
This has the identical active ingredient and dosage form.
After the patent protection on the original drug ends, other companies can make copies.

These copies are far less expensive than the brand.
However, these generics are required to demonstrate therapeutic equivalence to the reference product.
